Be Nice To Your Feet Please!

9 May

So I’m a full-time Esthetician, and this is the season of Pedicures. Everyone woman and her friends are filing in the spa doors to make their toes pretty in polish/shellac to show off in their flip flops. So why, oh, why are people letting their feet build massive amounts of dry and flaky skin and callus?

Today I spent almost 30 minutes on a ladies heels just to make them less flaky. They weren’t even FULLY soft when I was done! It would take two pedicures in the period of 1 full week to get rid of those flakes. And at an upscale spa, each pedicure costs around $62 each time plus tip. to spend $140 on your feet in just one week, when you are going to need a polish change within another month is just ridiculous. Plus the poor girl having to see-saw her way through your feet is disgusting.

So here’s some suggestions on how to do your own little at-home pedicure this summer:

1.Start by soaking your feet in warm water for 15min

2.Take them out and buff the bottom using a foot paddle (course side first, softer after)

3. Shape the toe nails and buff the nail surface with a nail buffer

4. Use a sugar scrub all over your legs and feet which will polish and soften the skin

-You can make your own scrub with 3 parts sugar, 1 part olive oil, add a little lemon juice

5.Use a Foot lotion or Body Butter all over foot and legs, massage in (normal body lotion is not hydrating enough)

6. Wipe lotion residue off nail surface by wiping it with nail polish remover on a cotton ball

7. Apply nail polish in the following order: 1 coat Basecoat, 2 coats Nail Polish, 1 coat Topcoat.

8. Apply cuticle oil to all cuticles when nail polish is partially dry

*Always apply Basecoat when painting nails because it offers several purposes for protecting the nail.

-Makes sure your polish does not stain the nail

-Will smooth out the nail surface

-Makes sure Polish stays on longer
