I like to do quite a bit of nail art on my younger sis as she is very patient with me experimenting on her. Plus the results are always excellent. So as you may all see Big Valley Jamboree is nearing, she needed some cute nails done. Here is the result, let me know what you think 😉BVJ Nails Horseshoe BVJnails

Television- What It’s missing for us COSMO girls!

7 Jun

So today I’m scrolling through my Shaw TV guide and I start noticing all the different genres that are popping up all over tv. There’s hillbilly, cooking, bosses watching their employees, nerd comedies, wedding dress shows, dating shows of the crazy kind, etc.. So i’m wondering… how come there is not a Esthetics and Beauty show out there yet?!?!?

Considering how much Esthetics and Beauty influence the media as well as our everyday life, I think there should at least be a TV program out there by now that educates people and keeps us up to date on trends as well as tips to help us be our best and look our best. I mean, Pinterest is great to scroll through, but the sources are not always very solid, nor are the instructions. I would love if I could sit down and watch professionals educate me on makeup, body treatments, hair, and other various beauty topics. Things that people could learn and do at home that aren’t too dangerous to try on yourself.

C’mon TV… Smarten UP! It’s an industry thats been around and constantly changing for centuries, so why does it seem to be the only thing you have to look up on youtube or pinterest and can’t see on tv?

Be Nice To Your Feet Please!

9 May

So I’m a full-time Esthetician, and this is the season of Pedicures. Everyone woman and her friends are filing in the spa doors to make their toes pretty in polish/shellac to show off in their flip flops. So why, oh, why are people letting their feet build massive amounts of dry and flaky skin and callus?

Today I spent almost 30 minutes on a ladies heels just to make them less flaky. They weren’t even FULLY soft when I was done! It would take two pedicures in the period of 1 full week to get rid of those flakes. And at an upscale spa, each pedicure costs around $62 each time plus tip. to spend $140 on your feet in just one week, when you are going to need a polish change within another month is just ridiculous. Plus the poor girl having to see-saw her way through your feet is disgusting.

So here’s some suggestions on how to do your own little at-home pedicure this summer:

1.Start by soaking your feet in warm water for 15min

2.Take them out and buff the bottom using a foot paddle (course side first, softer after)

3. Shape the toe nails and buff the nail surface with a nail buffer

4. Use a sugar scrub all over your legs and feet which will polish and soften the skin

-You can make your own scrub with 3 parts sugar, 1 part olive oil, add a little lemon juice

5.Use a Foot lotion or Body Butter all over foot and legs, massage in (normal body lotion is not hydrating enough)

6. Wipe lotion residue off nail surface by wiping it with nail polish remover on a cotton ball

7. Apply nail polish in the following order: 1 coat Basecoat, 2 coats Nail Polish, 1 coat Topcoat.

8. Apply cuticle oil to all cuticles when nail polish is partially dry

*Always apply Basecoat when painting nails because it offers several purposes for protecting the nail.

-Makes sure your polish does not stain the nail

-Will smooth out the nail surface

-Makes sure Polish stays on longer

Forcing Stiletto Nails Upon The World

5 May

Ok, so I realize that to most people the pointed nail represents the halloween version of the common witch. But I am here to tell you it isn’t so. I love them! I urge all to try them. They can be made classy.

They are great for the following reasons:

1. They don’t need to be long to visually elongate the fingers.

2. It’s easier to pick things up with since the side corners aren’t there anymore.

3. They give an amazing back/head scratch.

4. They look awesome as full solid color of any kind

So I urge you all to give them a try. Maybe start with Baby Stilettos which are a little wider at the base and definitely not very sharp. I recently forced my sister to try them. She so far has enjoyed them, I will report back on her review of them after two weeks.

Here is the result:

Nails inlaid with lace. The effect turned out to look a little more like snake skin, but gorgeous regardless.
